Everyone wants to live a long and healthy life, and there are steps you can take to increase your chances of living a long life. Making healthy choices is the key ingredient to living a long and healthy life. To a large extent, we have control over how healthy our bodies remain throughout our lifetime. Here is a list of very easy and basic ways to improve your health and add years to your life.

1. Manage your weight - Managing your weight is easier said than done. Start with small goals. You will notice a change in how your pants fit after losing just five pounds. Small goals add up and begin to equal big goals. If you are at a healthy weight, work hard to maintain it. Your health depends on it!

2. Exercise Daily - Researchers are finding that exercise plays a huge part in overall health. Those who exercise regularly have been found to be much more likely to lead healthier lives and live longer than those who do not exercise.

3. Healthy nutrition - A healthy diet is very important. It can help you maintain a healthy weight and ensure that your body gets all of the necessary nutrients for the day. There are numerous healthy dieting and weight loss tips available online.

4. Sleep Between 6-7 hours Every Night - The cleaner your body is on the inside the less sleep you need to restore energy. If you don’t get enough sleep you will not be able to perform as well, and your health will suffer. We recharge our nerve energy while we sleep. Also, during sleep we do the bulk of body repair and toxin removal. So, adequate sleep is a must. Researchers have found that those who sleep more than 8 hours or less than 4 hours a night are not as healthy as those who sleep 6-7 hours a night.

5. Practice good dental hygiene - This is extremely important for everyone. Studies prove that flossing your teeth daily can add up to 6 years to your life. Dental hygiene is extremely important because any gum and tooth issues can directly impact your overall health.

6. Eat more fruits and veggies - One very simple and inexpensive way to live healthier is to eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables. Take some time each day to plan how you can eat more fruits and veggies.

7. Drink plenty of water - It is very important to remain properly hydrated. Our bodies need water just as much as they need oxygen..

8. Restrict Alcohol Consumption. If you drink alcohol, restrict it to one drink per day. Drinking more than 2 drinks daily has been shown to have an adverse effect on health. Some studies have shown that drinking red wine is beneficial, but you still should keep it to no more than one drink per day.

9. Sunshine - Like the plants we eat, we need Sunlight. One reason I recommend walking outdoors for exercise is that we need sunlight on our skin and eyes to produce vitamin D. It is amazing low little skin surface area, exposed to the sun, will give us all the vitamin D we need.
